BGMU phone services, in conjunction with fiber Internet service, is both reliable and affordable. BGMU Fiber History
In July 2001, the City Commission granted Bowling Green Municipal Utilities permission to form a General Services Division, now known as BGMU Fiber, to provide ancillary services to the citizens of Bowling Green. Over the next year, nearly 50 miles of fiber optic cable was placed throughout the city in a strategic manner to provide redundancy. The BGMU Fiber Network went live in October 2002 with both dark fiber customers and lit fiber customers. In 2005, Co-location services were added to provide off-site disaster recovery and storage within a secure facility that provided fire suppression as well as generator backup. In April of 2012, construction was completed on a Tier II co-location known as the Lost River Data Center, a BGMU/WKU Joint Venture. The facility is located at WKU’s Center for Research and Development. In 2009 business telephone service was added to the array of services offered.
The Fiber Division consists of journeyman lineman, network analysts/specialist, and telephone technicians. The goals of BGMU Fiber are reliability, redundancy, scalability and enhanced productivity.
Since switching to BGMU Fiber, we’ve experienced far fewer outages and problems than ever before — making us more efficient, and keeping our cash registers and ordering systems running smoothly even in the busiest moments. And on the rare occasion that there is an issue, their techs are easy to reach and quick to respond. We wouldn’t think of going back to a non-fiber connection, and are already banking on BGMU Fiber for upcoming projects!
